Electrolyte Drink

This drink is ideal if you are dehydrated and finding it difficult to drink water (in pregnancy, during an upset tummy episode or you have been sweating a lot).

Replacing lost fluid and electrolytes when pregnant and during labour is essential. Most electrolyte and sports drinks contain artificial colours, flavourings, and preservatives. These are not ideal, especially during pregnancy or an upset tummy episode. Try this instead.

Electrolyte Replenishment Drink

1 litre of unsweetened coconut water (or plain water)

¼ teaspoon sea salt

10 drops trace mineral concentrate*

Juice of 1 lemon

100 ml freshly squeezed fruit juice - if you haven’t been eating (e.g. pineapple, apple, etc.)

Note: If you have gestational diabetes and are eating normally it is best to leave out fruit juice

Directions

Just mix everything together in a large jug. Sip as required and store the remainder in the fridge.

*Trace minerals are optional but well worth adding to this drink as an added boost, especially if you aren’t eating.

Available in health food shops or larger pharmacies. I like BioCare Nutrisorb Trace Minerals.
